The tongue, it is a fire
a spark that lights a flame
It can bring disaster
and tarnish people’s names.
It can speak out deceit
and it can spit out lies
it can crucify a friend
and lead to your demise
The tongue can cut much deeper
than a sharp knife or an ax
It can give you “honesty”
even if you haven’t asked.
It can change such words as love
into hurt or dismay
when the tone afixed to it
is the opposite of the word they say.
For our words hold great power
to burden or to ease
And if our words are gossip
they spread like a disease
They trick us into thinking
it is our right to speak
When little words unfit are spoken
making strong men weak
So here it is, the proverb
that speaks because its true
One whose hurt, hurts people
and maybe that is you..
Sarcastic words can shoot
just like a gun blow to the head
and they take the life of someone
and they leave that person dead.
Like an sharpened arrow
ready and then shot
Like a razor cutting deep
or poison that can rot
The tongue it is a fire
and a sword ready to fight
so ease off on the heavy
and speak within the light
For darkness will surround
the individual who sees
That their right is bitterness
that bites back and deceives
And when the spark is so alight
it turns into a flame
It proceeds like a wildfire
that man cannot contain
Know this, that your words hold weight
what you cannot see and know
That once released the tongue won’t cease
to go and go and go….
